If you think I might be a good fit for your needs, and you would like to submit a more targeted inquiry for tutoring services, please complete this form.
I primarily work with students in grades 7-12, though I will also work with college students and adults seeking to develop their skills in the areas in which I specialize. Please contact me about your particular needs and goals.
I live in Norwood, and am willing to travel within reasonable distances from Norwood (Brookline, Newton, Metrowest, parts of the South Shore, and many Boston neighborhoods depending on day and time). Please inquire about your specific location.
In-person sessions can take place in the student's home, or in a public setting like a library, coffee shop, etc. Depending on the particular school's policies, sessions can also take place at the student's school. If a session takes place in a student's home, I would require that another adult be present in the home during the session.
I very much belief in the power that in-person connection can provide. When I am able to read a student's body language, and to really watch that student work through a challenge, I am much better able to assess that student's needs, ensure they stay focused, and craft the most individualized plan possible.
That said, in line with my belief that each student learns differently, and with an understanding that in-person tutoring can add an extra layer of complication, I will consider online tutoring depending on a student's needs and the goals for the tutoring. If I don't believe online tutoring will be worthwhile and effective given the specifics, I will let you know and we can discuss those concerns in more detail.
Generally, sessions should last 60 minutes. That said, I would consider longer sessions if circumstances warrant it; shorter sessions are not likely to provide enough time for meaningful gains, but we can certainly discuss that as well.
Similarly, the frequency of sessions really depends on the student's particular needs and goals. Generally, once or twice per week should provide a good mix of consistency with also room for independent work (and the reality of other demands on students' time), but we can discuss more or less frequent sessions, as needed.
My first step will always be to better understand the needs, goals, and expectations that students and parents have, as well as the strengths and learning style of the student. I will then start by suggesting some possible paths ahead, and we can collaborate on a plan from there. For parents, I will always follow up each session with a summary of what we did in that session and some feedback what was accomplished, and what the next steps might be. The best learning experiences will come from a partnership with both parents and students is crucial, and that requires open communication.
Absolutely, but the goal of those sessions would not simply be to get the assignment done, but rather to build lasting skills that will help students tackle similar assignments in the future. Specific assignments often provide great opportunities to strengthen skills in writing, critical thinking, research, organization, and time/task-management.
I can certainly help students with the skills they will need to succeed on reading and writing sections of standardized tests, including both the SAT and several AP tests. However, I do not approach test prep as some others might. Instead, I focus on building the reading, writing, and analytical skills that improve performance both on these tests and beyond, rather than relying primarily on test-taking tricks or shortcuts. If the sole goal of the tutoring session is a specific score on a specific test, I am probably not the tutor for you. That said, I am confident that my skill-building approach will lead to tangible results, both on these tests and beyond.
Rates will range from $80-120/hour, depending on a variety of factors that include travel distance, frequency of tutoring, and the specific content/goals. Please feel free to inquire regarding your particular needs, and I can provide a detailed proposal.
I do not "pre-sell" packages of sessions as some do, because I have no way of knowing just how frequently a particular student will need to meet, and I do not want to oversell beyond what you need. However, once I know more details, I can propose a plan that takes this into account, and incorporates a discount for multiple sessions.
Because I will reserve a specific time for planned sessions, including travel, I will require 24 hours notice for any cancellation. If sessions are cancelled without 24 hours notice, I may require payment for that session before another can be scheduled. Obviously, emergencies arise, and we can discuss those on a case-by-case basis.
If you have any questions, you can always email me at hello@tutoringwithgreg.com. If you would like to more formally inquire about tutoring for your child or another student under your care, please start by sending me an inquiry using this inquiry form. I will reply to all emails and inquiries within 24 hours (if not sooner!). The more detail you can provide, the better I can assess whether I might be a good fit for your needs. I will then reach out for an initial conversation, in which we can assess whether I can help address your particular goals, and whether we think my approach will be a good fit.
If we agree to move forward, we can then schedule the first session at your convenience.
